Fighting Falcons Outlast NDC.

The Fighting Falcons of Fairmount State University were a 100-94 overtime winner over the Falcons of Notre Dame College on senior night at Murphy Gym Tuesday. With the win FSU improved to 18-9 overall and 13-8 in the Mountain East Conference. NDC fell to 9-18 overall and 7-14 in the MEC after there seventh consecutive loss.
  NDC had four players score in double figures in the loss. Tyree Gaiter led the way with 25 points to go along with six assists- Jarvis Huntley netted 24 for the home standing Falcons. Lawrence DeArmond chipped in 20- while Kaloma Figueroa-Jackson added 13 points.  NDC shot 53 percent (36-68) from the field in the loss. NDC shot 47 percent (8-17) from the 3-point line on the night. NDC was a solid 88 percent (14-16) at the foul line. The Falcons had 17 assists and 12 turnovers.
  The Fighting Falcons had three players score in double figures in the win.  Stevie Browning poured in a game high 31 points to go along with 13 rebounds- Brendan Cooper netted 25- and- Chase Morgan scored 24 in the FSU win. The Fighting Falcons shot 41 percent (32-78) from the floor in the game- they shot 45 percent (9-20) from the 3-point line.  FSU shot 73 percent (27-37) from the free throw line on the night. The Fighting Falcons were +13 (49-36) in the rebounding battle. The Fighting Falcons had 14 assists and 10 turnovers.
  The Fighting Falcons got off to a quick start and took a 14-4 lead early. NDC fought back and cut the lead to one (21-20) with 8:19 in the opening half.  FSU stretched the lead out to six (26-20) by scoring the next five points.  Figueroa-Jackson nailed another three to cut the lead to 26-23. NDC would get to within one (26-25) with 4:40 in the half.  NDC used a pair of dunks by Geovante Rose and DeArmond to take a three point lead (31-28) with 1:38 in the opening half. NDC led by three (33-30) at the half.
  NDC would get off to a good start in the second half and have there biggest lead of the game (37-32) with 17:53 remaining. NDC would get hot and stretch the lead to 11 (43-32) with 16:20 to go.
 The Fighting Falcons would then make a run of their own and cut the NDC lead to one (54-53) with 9:40 left. FSU would grab the lead (62-59) on a Morgan 3-pointer at the 6:53 mark. One minute and 15 seconds later Gaiter would give NDC the lead back (63-62) on a Gaiter layup. The two teams would battle back and forth for the next few minutes until Caleb Davis would hit a pair of free throws for the Fighting Falcons to tie the game at 72 with 1:29 left to go. The Fighting Falcons looked to be in control with 22 seconds left with a 77-74 lead but Gaiter nailed a fade-away 3-pointer to knot the game at 77. Thomas Wimbush would have a shot to win it for FSU but the game would go into overtime.
  The Fighting Falcons scored the first four points of the extra session and led by four (81-77.) After a Huntley layup the Falcons were down by two, then FSU ran off the next five points to lead by seven (86-79.) FSU would take control and lead by 11 (92-81) with under a minute to go. NDC would get to within four but would lose for the seventh straight time.
 NDC will look to snap that seven game losing streak in the regular season finale versus Urbana on Saturday. Tip time at Urbana is set for 3 PM.

Falcons Upset Falls Short In OT.

The Notre Dame Falcons (9-17 7-13 MEC) nearly pulled off a huge upset Saturday. Ultimately the Falcons would fall 100-93 in overtime to the second place team in the conference. The University of Charleston improved to 17-7 and 14-6 in the MEC with the win.
All five NDC starters scored in double figures in what was a sixth straight loss. Lawrence DeArmond paced the Falcons with 27 points- Tyree Gaiter added 19- Geovante Rose netted 15- Jarvis Huntley chipped in 12- and- Kaloma Figueroa-Jackson scored 10.
  The Falcons shot 52 percent (37-71) from the field in the game. They were a solid 46 percent (12-26) from the 3-point line. The Falcons only managed to get to the free throw line eight times. They went seven of eight (88 percent) at the line.  The Falcons out rebounded Charleston 36-32. They had 19 assists and 14 turnovers.
 The Golden Eagles won a fourth consecutive contest.  They had four players score in double figures in the hard fought win. Xavier Humphrey scored a game high 33 points to lead the way- Aleksander Kesic was a perfect 10 of 10 from the floor and five of seven at the foul line to tally 27 points- Fred Simpson netted 14- and- Denzel Douglas had 12.
  The Golden Eagles shot 55 percent (35-64) from the floor in the win. Charleston shot 43 percent (9-21) from the 3-point line. The Golden Eagles struggled at the foul line where they shot 66 percent (21-32) on the day. The Golden Eagles had 22 assists and just eight turnovers.
  The two teams traded runs early. It was the Golden Eagles who scored the game's first five points before the Falcons responded to score the next six. The first half saw seven lead changes and four ties. Neither team would have a lead larger than six in the game's first 20 minutes. Ryan Hickoff would drain a NDC 3-pointer that would spark a 10-2 Falcon run that would give them the lead at the 13:16 mark.  The Falcons would only trail once in the last 13:16 before a pair of Humphrey free throws would tie the game with 10 seconds in the half.
  The second half was hotly contested just like the first. The first 13 minutes would go back and forth. The game would be knotted at 68 at the 7 minute mark. The Falcons would get back to back 3-pointer's from DeArmond and Gaiter to spark a 7-0 run that gave them a 75-68 lead a minute later. The Golden Eagles would erase that deficit in the next 4:40. With 1:20 to go Kesic would tie the game at 82 with a 3-pointer. Neither team would score the rest of regulation and the game would go the extra five minutes.
  The home team dominated the extra session. They scored the first 10 points of the OT to lead 92-82 and would cruise to the 10-93 win.
  NDC will be back in action Tuesday February 25th. It will be senior night as the Falcons will battle Fairmount State at Murphy Gym. Fairmount State was a 78-74 winner in the first meeting back on February 8th. Tip time is set for 7:30 on Tuesday.

Gaiter's Monster Day Not Enough.

Despite a monster day from Tyree Gaiter, the Notre Dame Falcons fell 101-99 in the last minute to West Virginia State Thursday night.
  The Falcons fell to (9-16 7-12 MEC) with a fourth consecutive loss. Gaiter came up one point shy of the record for points in a single game. Gaiter scored 44 points in the contest. That was one fewer than Jerome Pierce's record set back in 2007. Three other Falcons tallied double figures in the loss. Lawrence DeArmond netted 17- Jarvis Huntley scored 15- and- Geovante Rose added 14.  The Falcons shot 54 percent (37-68) from the field. They shot at a 41 percent clip (9-22) from the 3-point line. The Falcons struggled at the foul line where they shot just 57 percent (16-28.)  They had 22 assists and 12 turnovers.
  Six of the eight Yellow Jackets  (10-13 6-13 MEC)  who saw the floor scored in double figures.  Bo King- and- Dimitrios Jelen Joy scored 22 and 21 points respectively- Steve Wing added 12- Angelo Sirianni and Dominic Phillips each scored 11- while Terry Wood had 10.
West Virginia State shot 50 percent (35-70) from the field in the win.  They nailed 57 percent (16-28) from the 3-point line.  The Pioneers were 63 percent (15-24) from the foul line.  The Yellow Jackets manhandled the Falcons on the boards 49-29.   They had 15 assists and 21 turnovers.
  The first five minutes belonged to the Yellow Jackets and jumped out to a 15-4 lead.  The lead would be stretched to 12 (23-11) with 9:55 in the opening half.  The next two minutes saw the Falcons cut the lead to six (27-21) with 7:55 to go in the half.
  The Jackets would make a 8-0 run of their own and lead by 14 (35-21) two minutes later.  The Falcons would make a 9-0 run later in the half and cut the Jackets lead to four  (43-39)  at the half.
  The first 10 minutes of the second would go back and forth. A Kaloma Figueroa-Jackson layup would knot the score at 66 at the 11:29 mark. NDC could not get over the hump and grab the lead though.  Finally NDC would forge into the lead at the 4:07 mark (92-90) after a Gaiter jumper.  The game would continue to go back and forth up until the last minute.  King would nail a 3-pointer for the Yellow Jackets to give them a two point lead (99-97) with just under a minute to go.  The Falcons would tie it again at 99 on a Huntley layup with 48 seconds to go.
  After a Yellow Jackets turnover NDC looked to have a chance to win it late but would turn it right back over as Juan Johnson would steal from Huntley.  King's layup at the other end would give the Yellow Jackets a two point lead (101-99) with 12 seconds.  The Falcons would have a shot to force OT but DeArmond's shot didn't fall as time expired.
  NDC is back in action Saturday when they head to Charleston West Va. to battle the University of Charleston.  The tip will be at 4 PM.  Charleston was a easy 95-63 winner at Murphy Gym back on January 13th.

Pioneers Make Short Work Of Falcons.

The Pioneers of Glenville State improved to 15-8 and 12-7 in the MEC with a easy 87-69 win over the Falcons of Notre Dame College (9-15 7-11 MEC.)
  The Pioneers were paced by a 25 point effort from Kevin Gray. Gray nailed seven 3-pointers in the contest.  Lamar Mallory netted 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting from the field.  Reggie Williams and Lamont Cole scored 10 each for the visitors.  The Pioneers shot 52 percent (33-64) from the field- and nailed 41 percent (12-29) from the 3-point line.  The Pioneers were a solid 75 percent (9-12) at the foul line.  The Pioneers owned the boards 41-32.  They had 17 assists and 11 turnovers.
  The Falcons were led by Lawrence DeArmond (17 points) and Jarvis Huntley (15) in the loss.  It was NDC's third straight defeat.  Geovante Rose also tallied nine.  The Falcons shot 40 percent (27-67) from the field and struggled from the 3-point line where they shot 29 percent (7-24.)  NDC was a perfect eight of eight at the free throw line.  They had just eight assists on 27 made field goals and 12 turnovers.
  The Pioneers jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the game's first three minutes, as they would never trail in the contest.  The Falcons got to within one (23-22) with 8:45 in the opening half. The Pioneers would then go on a 9-0 spurt to stretch the lead back to 10 (32-22.)
    After the Falcons cut the lead to five (37-32) at the 3:15 mark the Pioneers would close the half on a 9-2 run.  It would be a 11 point lead (46-35) for the Pioneers at the half.
  The Pioneers would go on a 19-8 run going back to the first half and the removed all doubt with a 18 point lead (58-40.) GSU would lead by as many as 29 and would cruise to the victory.
  NDC will be back in action Thursday when they battle West Virginia State. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM.

Bobcats Outlast Falcons.

The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats held off a late rally by the Notre Dame College Falcons to hold on for a 85-80 win Thursday night in Buckhannon,West Va.  With the win the Bobcats improved to (16-6 11-6 MEC.)  The Falcons fell to 9-14 and 7-10 in the Mountain East.
      The Falcons lost for the 10th time in 12 contests away from Murphy Gym.  It was the third loss in a row for NDC.  Three NDC players scored in double figures on the evening. Tyree Gaiter led the way with 29 points to go along with seven assists- Lawrence DeArmond added 21- and- Geovante Rose had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  The Falcons shot 41 percent (29-71) from the floor on the evening.  The 3-point line was not kind to the Falcons as they shot 30 percent (6-20.)  NDC was solid at the foul line. where they shot 76 percent (16-21) from the foul line.  They had 14 assists and just five turnovers.
  The Bobcats won for the third straight time and fourth time in six contests.  It was a balanced attack that led to the victory. Five Bobcats scored in double figures on the evening.  Chris Dewberry paced Wesleyan with 21 points- T.J Thompson added 17- Brett Ervin had 14- while Taylor Price and Alexsandar Djordjevic each tallied 11.  The Bobcats shot 44 percent (25-57) as a team.  They shot even better, shooting at a 47 percent clip (16-34) from the 3-point line.  Wesleyan shot 66 percent (19-29) at the free throw line.  They had 20 assists and 16 turnovers.
  The Bobcats jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the early going.  Wesleyan would stitch the lead to 10 (19-9) with 11:24 in the opening half.  The lead would swell to 20 (40-20) with 3:21 until halftime.
  NDC would then run off the next eight points to cut the lead to 12 (40-28) It would be a 12 point deficit (45-33) for NDC at the break.
  The Bobcats would keep the lead in double digits until a DeArmond 3-pointer would cut the lead to nine (50-41) with 15:13 left.  With the Falcons down 10 (76-66) with 2:13 to go, they would make a let push.  A DeArmond layup with 1:10 to go would cap off a 9-1 run and the Falcons were only down two (77-75.)  The Bobcats would nail eight free throws in the last 1:10 to hold on for the victory.
  NDC will be back in action Saturday. They will return home and face Glenville State. Tip time is set for 3 PM.

Fairmount State Dumps NDC.

The Notre Dame College Falcons have struggled on the road all season long and that trend continued on Saturday afternoon with a 78-74 loss to Fairmount State in the battle of the Falcons at Joe Retton Arena.  The win was the fifth in six games for FSU and there fourth in a row.  The loss for NDC was there second straight.
  The Fighting Falcons (15-6 10-5 MEC) were led by huge games from a pair of players.  Brendan Cooper went nine of 12 from the field and seven of 10 at the foul line en route to a game high 25 points.  Thomas Wimbush also had a impressive game.  Wimbush tallied a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds in 29 minutes of action.  FSU shot 43 percent from the field (26-61) in the game.  They did not convert a 3-pointer, going zero for eight as a team.  The Fighting Falcons shot 74 percent (26-35) at the foul line.  The Fighting Falcons were +12 in the rebounding battle 49-37.  They had 13 assists and 11 turnovers.
  The Falcons of NDC (9-13 7-9 MEC)  were led by a 21 point outing from Lawrence DeArmond and 16 from Tyree Gaiter.  The two combined to go 12-39 from the field between them.  Kaloma Figueroa Jackson chipped in 12- and Geovante Rose chipped in a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  The Falcons shot just 31 percent (21-68) from the field and were even worse from the 3-point line where they shot 25 percent (5-20.) The one bright spot for the Falcons was at the foul line, where they shot 87 percent (27-31.)  They had just eight assists on 21 made baksets and nine turnovers.
  Neither team could find there stroke in the early going. The Falcons were two of there first eight, while the Fighting Falcons were just four of 11.  Neither team could find there stroke in the next five minutes either.  Figueroa-Jackson would nail a 3-pointer and NDC would trail 18-16 halfway thru the opening half.  The Falcons would play much better in the last 10 minutes of the half. A Pat Koenig 3-pointer would give them a one point lead (31-30) and they would lead 34-32 going into halftime.
  The first 11 minutes of the second half would be a slight edge to FSU. NDC could not connect from the field, but would stay in the game at the foul line.  With nine minutes to go FSU led by two (50-48.) The Fighting Falcons would go on a run and stretch the lead to eight (60-52)  with seven minutes to go. The Falcons would answer with a spurt of there own.  This time a 9-2 run capped off by a Gaiter 3-point play to cut the deficit to one (62-61) with 4:34 left.  The Falcons would not go quietly although FSU would maintain the lead late.  DeArmond made a lay up at the 2:15 mark and the Falcons were within one again (68-67.)  FSU would then go on a 7-1 spurt in the next 1:15 to ice the win.
  NDC will be back in action Thursday night when they take on West Virginia Wesleyan.  Tip time is set for 7:30 PM.   West Viriginia Wesleyan defeated the Falcons 90-80 in the first meeting.

Falcons Streak Snapped.

The Notre Dame Falcons rallied late but could not stop Shepherd from coming away with a 90-81 win at the Butcher Center.  The Rams improved to 15-6 and 10-5 in the MEC with the win. The win gained a split of the season series between the Falcons and Rams for Shepherd. With the loss NDC had it's three game win streak snapped and fell to 9-12 overall and 7-8 in the MEC.
  The Falcons placed four players in double figures in the loss.  Jarvis Huntley led the way with 21 points for the "blue and white."  Tyree Gaiter continued his recent scoring binge scoring 20- Kaloma Figueroa Jackson chipped in 14- while Lawrence DeArmond scored 10.  The Falcons shot 41 percent from the floor and and went 11-38 (29 percent) from the 3-point line.  NDC shot 71 percent (12-17) at the free throw line.  They had 12 assists and 15 turnovers.
  The Rams had five players score double figures on the evening.  Marcus Pilgrim led the Rams with 21 points- Naim Muhammad just missed 17 points and nine rebounds.  Morgan McDonald had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.  Austin Cunningham chipped in 15, and Brantley Osborne rounded out the double digit scorers with 10.  The Rams shot 49 percent from the field and struggled from the 3-point line where they were 4-18 (22 percent.)  The Rams were superb at the foul line where they shot 90 percent (18-20.)  They dominated the rebounding battle 45-35.  They had 13 assists and 15 turnovers.
   The Falcons got off to a quick start on this night and led 13-9 five minutes in.  The Rams then went on a 10-2 spurt and led by four (19-15) three minutes later.  The Rams extended that lead to seven (36-29) at the half.
  The Rams stretched the lead to 10 (44-34) with 17:30 to go.  The Falcons then went "ice cold" and the Rams would extend the lead to 19 (64-45) with a little under nine minutes to go. NDC would score the next nine points and would cut the deficit to 10 (64-54.) after a Gaiter 3-pointer.  NDC would get as close as four (82-78) on a Figueroa-Jackson lay-up with just under a minute to go.
  The Rams would make 10 free throws in the final minute and come away with the win.  It was a little payback for the Falcons 82-77 win back on January 4th.
  NDC will be back in action on Saturday when they battle Fairmount State at 4 PM in West Virginia.  It will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams, as the first meeting at Murphy Gym was postponed back on January 6th.

Surging Falcons Roll Past Cavaliers.

The Notre Dame Falcons (9-11 7-7 MEC) used another hot shooting performance to roll to a third straight victory over the Cavaliers of Virginia Wise (9-10 6-9 MEC) 85-60 at Murphy Gym Monday night.
  NDC was led by Lawrence DeArmond who poured in a game high 31 points. Reigning MEC Conference Player of the week Tyree Gaiter added 14, while Jarvis Huntley scored 10. The Falcons shot 57 percent (34-60 from the field)- nailed 43 percent (6-14) from the 3-point line- and- hit just 58 percent (11-19) of there free throws.  NDC had 20 assists and 10 turnovers.
  The Cavaliers lost for the seventh time in the past 10 games.  Deon Boyce stuffed the stat sheet for the Cavaliers with 16 points- 16 rebounds- a pair of assists- and-a- steal. Matt Day added 15 points- and- five rebounds. Javon Moore netted seven points and grabbed eight rebounds.  The Cavaliers shot just 30 percent (20-66) from the field. They were just 20 percent (6-30) from the 3-point line.  They made good on 70 percent (14-20) from the free throw line.  The Cavaliers won the rebounding battle 43-35.  They had just eight assists on there 20 made baskets- and turned the ball over 17 times.
  The Falcons jumped out early and scored the game's first 11 points.  Gaiter scored nine of the team's first 16 in the game.  NDC stretched the lead to 22 (30-8) on some torrid shooting in the first nine minutes of the game. They would hit 13 of 15 to start the contest.  DeArmond scored 25 of his game high 31 in the opening stanza.  NDC would lead by as many as 31 (79-48) and cruise to the 25 point win.
  NDC will look to continue it's late season surge when they head back to West Virginia to take on Shepherd. Tip time Thursday night is set for 730 PM.

Three's Company. Falcons Use Solid 3-point Shooting to Secure Win.

What a difference a week makes. The Notre Dame College Falcons were 6-11 on the year going into this week's play. Who would have ever guessed what was to come in the coming week? After a solid 86-72 win to complete the season sweep of Concord (West Va.) the outlook for the rest of the season is even different for the Falcons then it was a week ago. Thursday night saw the Falcons score the biggest win in program history when they knocked off top ranked West Liberty (West.Va) 89-87. Saturday the Falcons took care of business at Murphy Gym.
  The Falcons (8-11 6-7 MEC) were paced by Tyree Gaiter who netted 24 points. Gaiter added five rebounds and six assists.  Kaloma Figueroa-Jackson nailed six of seven 3-pointer's en route to a 20 point effort.  Lawrence DeArmond added 16- and- Geovante Rose chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds.  NDC shot 56 percent (31-55) from the field.  They shot at a 50 percent clip (11-22) from the 3-point line on the evening.  NDC had a very good night at the foul line where they shot 87 percent (13-15.)  The Falcons had 20 assists and only turned it over eight times.
  The Mountain Lions (6-14 3-11 MEC) fell to 0-10 on the road this season.  They were led by a 19 point day from Mike Boyd.  Paul Byrd added 18- and- Terry Hopewell added a double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds.)  The Mountain Lions shot 47 percent (28-60) from the field on the day. They struggled from the 3-point line where they were 5-23 (22 percent.)  Concord only shot 69 percent (11-16) at the foul line.  The Mountain Lions won the rebounding battle 31-28.  They had 12 assists and turned the ball over nine times.
  NDC building off the win over West Liberty Thursday came out of the gates quickly Saturday and never let up.  The first 14 minutes of the games saw neither team lead by more than four points.  NDC would lead by three (39-36) with 2:52 in the half.  The Falcons would close the half on a 8-1 run and led by 10 (47-37) at the half.
  The second half would belong to the Falcons. The Mountain Lions would get to within seven (64-57) on a Cam Shannon jumper but that is as close as they would get the rest of the way.
  NDC will be back in action Monday night when they take on Viginia Wise at Murphy Gym. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM.
