Surging Falcons Roll Past Cavaliers.
The Notre Dame Falcons (9-11 7-7 MEC) used another hot shooting performance to roll to a third straight victory over the Cavaliers of Virginia Wise (9-10 6-9 MEC) 85-60 at Murphy Gym Monday night.
NDC was led by Lawrence DeArmond who poured in a game high 31 points. Reigning MEC Conference Player of the week Tyree Gaiter added 14, while Jarvis Huntley scored 10. The Falcons shot 57 percent (34-60 from the field)- nailed 43 percent (6-14) from the 3-point line- and- hit just 58 percent (11-19) of there free throws. NDC had 20 assists and 10 turnovers.
The Cavaliers lost for the seventh time in the past 10 games. Deon Boyce stuffed the stat sheet for the Cavaliers with 16 points- 16 rebounds- a pair of assists- and-a- steal. Matt Day added 15 points- and- five rebounds. Javon Moore netted seven points and grabbed eight rebounds. The Cavaliers shot just 30 percent (20-66) from the field. They were just 20 percent (6-30) from the 3-point line. They made good on 70 percent (14-20) from the free throw line. The Cavaliers won the rebounding battle 43-35. They had just eight assists on there 20 made baskets- and turned the ball over 17 times.
The Falcons jumped out early and scored the game's first 11 points. Gaiter scored nine of the team's first 16 in the game. NDC stretched the lead to 22 (30-8) on some torrid shooting in the first nine minutes of the game. They would hit 13 of 15 to start the contest. DeArmond scored 25 of his game high 31 in the opening stanza. NDC would lead by as many as 31 (79-48) and cruise to the 25 point win.
NDC will look to continue it's late season surge when they head back to West Virginia to take on Shepherd. Tip time Thursday night is set for 730 PM.
