Pioneers Make Short Work Of Falcons.
The Pioneers of Glenville State improved to 15-8 and 12-7 in the MEC with a easy 87-69 win over the Falcons of Notre Dame College (9-15 7-11 MEC.)
The Pioneers were paced by a 25 point effort from Kevin Gray. Gray nailed seven 3-pointers in the contest. Lamar Mallory netted 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting from the field. Reggie Williams and Lamont Cole scored 10 each for the visitors. The Pioneers shot 52 percent (33-64) from the field- and nailed 41 percent (12-29) from the 3-point line. The Pioneers were a solid 75 percent (9-12) at the foul line. The Pioneers owned the boards 41-32. They had 17 assists and 11 turnovers.
The Falcons were led by Lawrence DeArmond (17 points) and Jarvis Huntley (15) in the loss. It was NDC's third straight defeat. Geovante Rose also tallied nine. The Falcons shot 40 percent (27-67) from the field and struggled from the 3-point line where they shot 29 percent (7-24.) NDC was a perfect eight of eight at the free throw line. They had just eight assists on 27 made field goals and 12 turnovers.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the game's first three minutes, as they would never trail in the contest. The Falcons got to within one (23-22) with 8:45 in the opening half. The Pioneers would then go on a 9-0 spurt to stretch the lead back to 10 (32-22.)
After the Falcons cut the lead to five (37-32) at the 3:15 mark the Pioneers would close the half on a 9-2 run. It would be a 11 point lead (46-35) for the Pioneers at the half.
The Pioneers would go on a 19-8 run going back to the first half and the removed all doubt with a 18 point lead (58-40.) GSU would lead by as many as 29 and would cruise to the victory.
NDC will be back in action Thursday when they battle West Virginia State. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM.
