NDC Rolls Past Cavaliers.

The Notre Dame College Falcons improved to 4-1 (2-0 MEC) with a 80-65 win over the Cavaliers of Virginia Wise at Murphy Gym Monday night.  The loss dropped the Cavaliers to 1-4 on the season.
  NDC used a great stretch of defense to secure the victory.  The Falcons did not allow the Cavaliers to score for the first five minutes of the second half.  The Falcons had three players score double figures on the day. Lawrence DeArmond poured in a game high 29 points.  Will Vorhees notched 15- and Tyree Gaiter had his first double double of the season (12 points and 11 assists.)  NDC shot 44 percent on the day.  They struggled from the 3-point line going just 4-22.  The Falcons were a solid 70 percent (14-20) at the free throw line.  The Falcons out rebounded UVA Wise 47-40.  They also had twice as many assists (16) as turnovers eight.
   The Cavaliers also had four players score in double figures.  Phillip Owens led the way with 15 points- Charles George and Oliver Thompson each netted 12- while Aaron Meredith scored 10.  The Cavaliers shot 36 percent from the field on the day. They were 9 of 29 from the 3-point line.  The Cavaliers were not good at the free throw line where they shot 57 percent (12-21.)  They had 13 assists and 11 turnovers.
  The game started with both teams hitting on a trio of 3-pointer's early.  The game was tied until the Falcons went on a 8-2 run to go up six.  The Falcons would lead by as many as 13 (37-24) and never trailed the rest of the way.  The Cavaliers would get to within six (43-37) at halftime.
  The Falcons made five of the first six shots they took to start the second half and used a 15-0 run to put the game out of reach.  The Falcons would cruise to victory from that point.
  NDC will be back in action December 1st when they will take on Ohio Midwestern. Tip time at Murphy Gym is set for 7 PM.

Falcons Tame Mountain Lions in Home Opening Win.

The Notre Dame Falcons used a huge second half to take the 2014-15 home opener 86-76 over Concord at Murphy Gym on Saturday afternoon. The win improved the Falcons to 3-1 on the season, while the Mountain Lions fell to 2-1.  The game was the first in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) for both teams.
  The Falcons were paced by Tyree Gaiter with a game high 30 points.  It was the second straight game the Cleveland Heights product put up at least 30 points. He went 14 of15 at the foul line on the day.  Gaiter also dished out five assists in 39 minutes.  Kyauta Taylor bounced back from a rough shooting night in Columbus against Ohio Dominican early in the week and netted 16 points Saturday.  Taylor was seven of 12 from the field and two of three from the 3-point line.  This coming after a 1-7 night in Columbus the last time out.  Lawrence DeArmond tallied 15, and Will Vorhees chipped in 10.  
  The Mountain Lions were paced by Mike Boyd and Jametrius Wade with 15 points each.  Terry Hopewell added a double-double (14 points and 12 rebounds) while Aaron Miller scored 13.
   The opening half saw the lead change hands five times and neither team led by more than six points.
  The second half started much like the first, as neither team got a lead bigger than three in the first ten minutes.  With 9:40 to go Concord took a one point lead (60-59) before the Falcons would go on a 8-0 spurt to take the lead for good with 8:03 to play.  The Falcons biggest lead was 11 (77-66) after a Vorhees 3-pointer at the 3:44 mark.  The Mountain Lions would not go away as they would trim the lead to three (77-74) with  1:19 remaining.  Taylor would bury a crucial 3-pointer and Gaiter would seal it at the free throw line for the Falcons.  
  The Mountain Lions shot 48 percent to the Falcons 46 percent.  This after Concord shot 67 percent in the opening half.  The Falcons shot 29 percent from the 3-point line while the Mountain Lions shot 30 percent.  A big deciding factor in the game was the free throw line. The Mountain Lions shot 68 percent (17-25) while the Falcons shot 88 percent (15-17.)  The Mountain Lions out rebounded NDC 37-34.  The Mountain Lions had 13 assists to 12 for the Falcons.  NDC only turned the ball over 8 times while the Mountain Lions had 18 miscues.
  The Falcons will be back in action Monday when they battle Virginia Wise at Murphy Gym. Tip time is set for 4 PM.

Poor Shooting Falcons Fall to Panthers.

The Notre Dame College Falcons game with the Panthers of Ohio Dominican was a tale of two halves on Wednesday evening. Ultimately the Panthers would roll to a 89-69 victory.
  NDC (2-1) played a solid first 20 minutes, but were not able to keep pace on either end in the final 20 minutes. NDC was paced by a 30 point effort from Tyree Gaiter.  Gaiter added three assists and three steals but turned the ball over six times.  Lawrence DeArmond added 18 points, while Najeeb Johnson added 11.  Will Vorhees added 12 rebounds.
  The Panthers (1-2) tallied four players in double figures.  Mark Minch led the way with 22 points- Chad Nelson notched 20- Trent Weaver scored 15- and Mike Deleon put up 12.
 The Panthers led the entire way in the opening half but were not able to put away the Falcons.  Although the lead never did change hands the half did see six ties.  The biggest lead for the Panthers was nine (35-26) before the Falcons would reel off the next nine points to knot the game at 35.  The Panthers would take a four point lead (39-35) into halftime.
  The Falcons would get a 3-pointer from Vorhees on the opening possession to cut the deficit to one (39-38) but that is as close as they would get.  Ohio Dominican would stretch the lead to 10 (53-43) after a Falcon stretch that saw them shoot just 30 percent for the opening five minutes of the half.
  The Panthers would stretch the lead to 14 (61-47) before they would go on one last spurt. This time a 12-4 run cut the Panthers lead to six (65-59) but that is as close as NDC would get. The Panthers would score the game's next nine points to put it away.
  The Falcons shot 35 percent on the game (25-72) but could not find the stroke from the 3-point line where they only shot 13 percent (3-24.)  NDC also hurt themselves at the foul line shooting just 55 percent (16-29.)  The Falcons had just nine assists and turned it over 10 times.
  The Panthers shot 53 percent from the field on the game. This included shooting at a 61 percent clip (19-31) in the second half.  The Panthers only shot 23 percent (3-13) from the 3-point line.  They were a solid 73 percent (22-30) at the free throw line.  The Panthers enjoyed a 49-39 rebounding edge.  They had 16 assists and 14 turnovers.
  NDC will be back in action with the Mountain East Conference Opener as well as the home opener at 4 PM at Murphy Gym. Tip time is set for 4 PM.

High Octane Offense Leads Falcons Past Virginia Union.

The Notre Dame Falcons started 2-0 for the first time since the 2009-10 season with a 112-99 victory over Virginia Union Sunday in Institute,West Va.  The Falcons came away with two wins in the opening tournament while Virginia Union split a pair of games to start the season.
   The Falcons had six players score in double figures on the afternoon.  Lawrence DeArmond paced the Falcons with 23 points-Najeeb Johnson and Will Vorhoos each put up 22 in the victory. Kyauta Taylor scored 18-Tyree Gaiter had 14 to go along with seven assists. Jay Banyasz rounded out the double digit scorers with 11 points.
  Virginia Union had four players in double figures on the day. Avery Jirminson led the way with 22 points- Ray Anderson and Robert Valentine each put up 19 in a losing effort.  Ronald Whaley netted 17 to round out the double digit scorers.
   Banyasz scored the game's first six points as the Falcons got off to a quick start for the second straight day.  NDC would lead 18-11 six minutes into the contest. NDC would stretch the lead to 12 (31-19) with 9:02 to go in the opening half. The Falcons would maintain a sizable lead for the remainder of the half and led by 15 (54-39) at the half.
  The second half would be controlled by the Falcons. They would lead by as many as 23 (63-40) but the Panthers would not go quietly. They would cut the Falcons lead to 10 (100-90) before the Falcons would finish them off.
 The Falcons had a good day, as they shot the ball at a 50 percent clip (38-76.)  The Falcons shot 38 percent (9-24) from the 3-point line for the day.  A day after struggling at the foul line the Falcons shot a solid 82 percent (27-33) on free throw's.  NDC was a +12 (46-34) in the rebounding battle.  The Falcons had 19 assists and 11 turnovers.
  The Panthers shot 56 percent (37-66) from the field- they also shot it well from the 3-point line where they shot 44 percent (7-16.)  The Panthers were not good at the foul line shooting 60 percent (18-30.)  The Panthers turned the ball over 14 times to go along with 16 assists.
  NDC will be back in action Wednesday when they head to Columbus to battle Ohio Dominican.  Tip time is set for 7 PM.

Hot Shooting Falcons Roll Past Shaw.

The Notre Dame Falcons got big night's from the 3-point from a  couple players  to open up the 2014-15 season with a 93-71 victory over Shaw.  The victory was the first game of the Earl Lloyd Conference Challenge in Institute,West Virginia.
  The Falcons (1-0) saw four players tally double figures on the evening.  Tyree Gaiter led the way with 29 points.  He was four of eight from the 3-point line.  Kyuata Taylor tallied 26 behind a six of 10 night from the 3-point line.  Lawrence DeArmond scored 15 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out six assists, while Will Vorhees netted 13.
  Shaw (0-1) was led by three players in double figures.  Baba Oli Odd led the way with 17 points for the Bears.  Koron Reed scored 14- and Jamar Cooper notched 12.
  The Bears got off to a quick start and led 8-2 in the early going behind a pair of Cooper 3-pointer's.  Five minutes into the contest Shaw had a five point lead (15-10.)
 NDC would then go on a 22-2 run triggered by full- court pressure.  During the run the Bears turned the ball over 10 times.  Taylor would scored nine points during that span and the Falcons took a 15 point lead (32-17.)  Shaw would miss 12 consecutive shots at one point.  The Falcons would take a nine point lead (35-26) into halftime.
  The Falcons would hit the first five shots they attempted in the second half, while the Bears would miss the first three that they attempted.  The Falcons would open up a 20 point lead (49-29) with 16:35 left to go.  The Falcons would lead by as many as 30 (82-52) and would cruise to the victory.  The lead would be no less than 18 the rest of the way.
  The Falcons shot 46 percent (33-72) from the field on the night- they shot 39 percent (11-28) from the 3-point line. NDC struggled at the foul line shooting 67 percent (16-24.)  Each team grabbed 42 rebounds. The Falcons turned it over 10 times to go along with 18 assists.
  The Bears shot 38 percent (23-61.) They shot 35 percent (6-17) from the 3-point line.  The Bears were a solid 76 percent (19-25) at the free throw line.  The Bears had almost double as many turnovers (23) as assists (13.)
  NDC will be back in action Sunday at 1 PM when they take on Virginia Union.
