The Tars jumped out to a 10-5 lead four minutes in as Nick Wolf would account for half of those points for Rollins. The game would go back and forth for a couple of minutes before Myk Brown would drain a pair of triples to give Rollins a 28-17 lead with 8 minutes in the half. Lynn would make it a little closer before halftime as the Tars would carry a 35-30 lead into the locker room.
The game would stay that way for the first couple of minutes of the second half. Lynn would then vault into the lead 42-40 with 15:14 remaining as the Kennedy's would account for all six points during the spurt. Lynn had a four point lead with 12 minutes left but the Tars would go on a 13-2 spurt of their own to open up a 59-52 (7 point lead) with 5 minutes to go. Lynn cut the lead to four with a minute to play but would not get any closer as the Tars would seal it with some solid foul shooting. The Tars maintained a 1 game lead over Florida Southern in the SSC. The Tars will have a rare non conference game Wednesday as they will welcome Palm Beach Atlantic to Warden Arena. Gerald Warrick tallied a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Three other players would tally 10 points. Marcus Robinson, Eric Johnson and Joel Cashatt would each score 10. The Pioneers shot 40% (32 of 81) from the floor. Point Park was a dismal 22% (7 of 31) from beyond the arc. The Pioneers were a suspect 11 of 19 (58%) from the charity stripe. NDC won the battle of the boards 50-42.

Point Park would get no closer than 7 the rest of the way and the Falcons would go on to the 9 point win. The Falcons will hit the road as they will head to Canton to battle Malone. Tip time is set for 7:30 on Tuesday evening.

Tars Trip Up Tritons.

Somewhere Phil Jackson is grinning from "ear to ear". The ageless debate will go on forever but Wednesday night would have made Jackson proud. The Rollins College Tars had a 3 point lead and the Eckerd Tritons had plenty of capable three point shooters on the court. So as soon as Chris Gray crossed the timeline Ian Scott fouled the Eckerd guard before he could get a shot up. Gray made both free throws. Nick Wolf then hit Brock Blanchard with a baseball pass and Blanchard was fouled. Brock nailed the free throw and missed the second intentionally, the Tritons would have a desperation heave that was off the mark as time expired.

It was a nip and tuck affair all night long at the McCarthur Center. Myk Brown led Rollins with 26 points including 8-8 from the charity stripe. Nick Wolf would net 12 points, and Ian Scott had 8 off the bench. The Tars would improve to 15-3 overall and 7-1 in the Sunshine State Conference with Wednesday's victory.
The Tritons would only have one player in double figures. John Harper scored 15 points. Harper was 6 of 17 from the floor and only 3 of 13 from three point land. Zaron Cann and Lewis Lampley each posted 7 points for the Tritons. With the loss Eckerd dropped to 10-7 overall and 4-4 in the SSC. The Tritons are in a three way tie for fourth place in the conference with Lynn and Nova Southeastern.
The two teams would go back and forth in the early going. The Tritons would hold a 9-8 lead as defense dominated the first 10 minutes of the game. The Tars would then go on a 9-0 run to take a 17-9 lead just a 1:31 seconds later. Eckerd would fight back and regain the lead 21-20 right before halftime. The Tars would go on a 9-1 run to close out the half and lead 29-22 at the break.
The Tars would extend the lead to ten early in the second half but once again the Tritons would battle back. Eckerd would cut the Tars lead to one on two separate occasions but the Tars would not give up the lead and would hang on for the 59-57 win. The Tars shot 43% (16 of 37) in the game. Rollins was a season low 25% (3 of 12) from three point land. The Tritons shot 38% (20 of 52) and dominated the glass out rebounding the Tars 38-27. The win was the Tars first at the McCarthur Center in nearly 4 years. February 4,2006 was the last time the Tars left Eckerd with a W. The Tars will be back in action Saturday when they complete the season series with the Fighting Knights of Lynn. The Tars defeated Lynn to open the conference slate 61-50 on December 5th. Tip time is slated for 4 PM at Warden Arena.

NDC runs past WilberForce.

The Notre Dame Falcons are starting to feel real comfortable in Murphy Gym. It was a 35-28 game and anybody's game at the half on Tuesday. The Falcons 16-6 (7-1 AMC) removed all doubt with a 17-0 run to start the second stanza and rolled to a 75-56 win over the Wildcats from Wilber Force 8-13 (2-7 AMC). Al Miller led the Falcons who tallied three players in double numbers. Miller was 9 of 16 from the field and 4 of 7 from three point territory for his game high 22 points. Eric Dummermuth had another double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds on 7 of 13 from the floor. Nick McCartney drained all 8 of his free throw attempts en route to a 15 point evening. McCartney was 3 of 7 from the floor. The Falcons shot 47% from the field on 28 of 60 attempts. The blue and white were 6 of 15 from three point land for 40%. The Falcons shot at a 81% clip from the charity stripe (13 of 16).

The Wildcats had two players tally double figures. Tim Giles had 17 points including 5 of 11 from three point land. Adam Reese just missed a double-double as he tallied 12 points and 9 boards on the evening. WilberForce shot a frigid 20 of 62 (32%) from the floor. The Wildcats were 8 for 21 (38%) from distance. The Wildcats made good on all 8 of their free throw attempts. The Falcons won the battle of the boards 42-33. NDC had 14 assists as opposed to 9 for the Wildcats. NDC had 13 turnovers while the Wildcats had 14.
The Falcons as has been the case during this 6 game home win streak jumped out quickly. It was 10-2 Notre Dame after a Phil Biggs old fashioned three point play. The Wildcats Tim Giles would answer with 2 of his 5 treys to cut it to 10-8 with 14:44 in the half. NDC would then go on a 5-0 run as a McCartney three and a Dummermuth bucket would stretch the lead to 7. The lead would stay in that 5-8 range for the rest of the half. A Dummermuth free throw and a bucket by McCartney would make it 35-28 Falcons at the half. NDC would come out playing suffocating defense in the second half. The first 17 points of the half would go to NDC and going back to the first half it would be a 20-0 run that would make it 52-28 and all but put the game out of reach. The Falcons would lead by as many as 25 and cruise to the 75-56 victory. The Falcons will be back in action Thursday night at 8 PM, as they will look to avenge the only blemish on their conference slate so far against the Pioneers of Point Park.

A little about Notre Dame College:

As was the case with Rollins college, the same thing has been brought to my attention about Notre Dame College. The thing that makes NDC unique as opposed to Rollins is many people don't know the school exsists let alone competes in sports. Notre Dame College of Ohio was founded in 1922. Currently NDC has 1240 undergraduate students. The Falcons compete in the NAIA division 2. The NAIA is the equivalent of division 4 sports. The NAIA is separated into division 1 and division 2. Notre Dame College competes in 21 different sports including lacrosse and basketball. The Falcons compete in the American Mideast Conference. The other schools that compete in the AMC are:

Carlow University Celtics
Cedarville Yellow Jackets
Daemen Wildcats
Houghton Highlanders
Malone Pioneers
Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars
Northwestern (OH) Racers
Point Park Pioneers
Roberts Wesleyan Raiders
Shawnee State Bears
Walsh Cavaliers
WilberForce Bulldogs
You can always check out the Falcons athletic site at:
www.NotreDameFalcons.com
The NDC school page at:

Hope this makes following the Falcons a little more fun.

A Little About Rollins College:

It has been brought to my attention in recent days that a lot of people who read my blog are not familiar with Rollins College. I would like to take this opportunity to give you a little background. Rollins College is located in Winter Park, Florida and currently has 2,715 undergraduate students enrolled. The college was founded in 1885. The Tars compete on the division two level and currently have 22 different sports teams including men's and woman's basketball, lacrosse, baseball and softball just to name a few. Rollins competes in the nine team Sunshine State Conference. The other eight schools in the conference along with the Tars are as follows:

Florida Southern Moccasins
Lynn Fighting Knights
Barry Buccaneers

Falcons Get Fifth straight Home Win

The Notre Dame College Falcons welcomed several alumni back to campus on Saturday afternoon. A near full house of 246 fans watched the Falcons (15-6 7-1 AMC) dispose of the Houghton Highlanders 8-10 (3-5 AMC) 83-71 at Murphy Gym. The Falcons had four players in double figures on the day. They were led by Curtis McClure who scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half Saturday. McClure was 10 of 13 from the field and added 5 rebounds. Eric Dummermuth who was presented with the game ball from Thursday's night game prior to the tip added 21 points and 12 rebounds. The game ball was presented for Dummermuth hitting the 1,000 point plateau. Nick McCartney would have a very solid game for the Falcons. McCartney would tally 12 points, 9 assists and 6 steals. Phil Biggs would round out the double digit scorers as he would rack up another double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Houghton had three players in double digits. Devin Paige led the Highlanders with 26 points including 5 triples. Ryan Shay netted 20 points on 7 of 15 shooting. The Highlanders last double digit scorer would be Mark O' Brien who had 13 points. O'Brien is from Seven Hills, OH and CVCA.
The Falcons would jump out to an early lead on the Highlanders in the first 6 minutes. A Eric Dummermuth 10 footer with 14:30 minutes to go would give the Falcons an early 13-4 lead. The Highlanders would fight back in the next six minutes and a three ball by Devin Paige would cut the NDC lead to 21-18 with 8 minutes in the half. The blue and white would then go on a 10-1 run over the next three minutes and they would have a 10 point lead with 5:00 to go in the half. It would be pretty even basketball for the last 5 minutes and the Falcons would go into the intermission with a 7 point lead (40-33). The Highlanders would come out firing in the second half. They would score 9 of the first 10 points in the second half. Paige would hit a pair of free throws to give Houghton a 42-41 lead with 16:40 to go. The lead would change hands a couple times on the next couple possessions. Paige would hit a pair of free throws and all of the sudden with 14 minutes left the Highlanders would have a 6 point lead. Notre Dame would come out of the timeout with a full court press and force three consecutive Houghton turnovers. Curtis McClure would have a couple steals and then Nick McCartney would have a pair of steals that turned into transition hoops. The Falcons went on a 13-0 run and led 58-51 with just over 11 minutes to go. The two squads would trade blows and a trey by Jacob Bowman would cut the Falcons lead to 62-59. Curtis McLure would score a basket but the Highlanders would not go quietly. Dan Tomlinson hit a three with 7:15 to go and it was a 64-62 game. It would stay that close until a tranisition hoop by McClure and a pair of jumpers by Biggs would give NDC a 6-0 run and a 74-66 lead with 3:12 to go. That would be as close as the Highlanders would get as the Falcons would go on for the hard fought 83-71 win. The Falcons will be back in action Tuesday when they will welcome Wilberforce to Murphy Gym. Tip time is set for 8 PM.

Tars Secure Workmanlike Win Over Lions.

The Rollins College Tars led by a 19 point performance by Myk Brown took care of the St.Leo Lions 73-60 at Warden Arena on Saturday afternoon. Saint Leo had three players of their own in double figures. Josue Vazquez led the way for the Lions with 18 points on 6 of 12 shooting. Jordan Prais had 14 points to go along with 5 rebounds. Dominick Robinson rounded out the Leo double digit scorers with 11. With the loss the Lions dropped to 8-11 (2-6 SSC).
The Tars would come out of the gate quickly and score the game's first four points. The Lions would then outscore Rollins 13-5 in the next 7 minutes to take a 13-9 lead with 10:58 in the half. The Tars would then score the next seven points and after a pair of Myk Brown free throws would take a 16-13 lead with 7:21 in the half. The Tars would then stretch that lead out, after a jumper by Nick Wolf right before the half the Tars would take a 34-24 lead into the locker room. The first five minutes of the second half would be evenly played and after a trey by Myk Brown the Tars would have a 51-37 lead with 14:34 to go. Nick Wolf would make a layup on the ensuing possession to stretch the Rollins lead to 16. The Tars would take their largest lead of the game with 4:13 to go as a Brock Blanchard triple would make it 67-50. The Tars would sail in the last four minutes to a 73-60 win. The Tars dominated the stat sheet on the day. They would outshoot the Lions 53% to 37%. From three point land the Tars were 9 of 27 (33%) while the Lions were 4-21 (19%). Each team was 80% at the line. Saint Leo was 16 of 20 from the charity stripe, while the Tars were 8 of 10. Rollins won the rebounding battle 32-27. The Tars had 5 turnovers that cost them 7 points.
