Beaten At The Buzzer.

The short-handed Notre Dame Falcons (1-3) fell to the Presidents of Washington and Jefferson 66-65 on a 18 footer at the horn by Zach Belhy. Belhy lead all scorers with 26 points as the Presidents improved to 3-3 on the season. NDC was without Eric Dummermuth and Nate Ensz who both are nursing injuries.

The game started in the Faclcons favor as they would jump out to a 27-16 lead behind the shooting of Taylor Reiger and Marcquise Taylor. The Presidents would quickly erase that deficit, before the Falcons would take a six point lead into the halftime break 32-26.
NDC would score the first three points of the second half to open up a nine point lead. Then it would be the Presidents who would rip off a 27-9 run that looked to put them in command. The Falcons would then go on a 10-0 spurt to take a three point lead on a Reiger three that would make it 62-59. The Presidents would tie it on a traditional three point play. The Falcons would get the lead back after the Presidents had a brief one point lead. Troy Baugh would give the Falcons the lead on a runner with 18 seconds to play and that would set up the Presidents last second heroics.
Three Presidents scored in double figures on the evening. Belhy lead the way with 26, while Andy Carter added a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Uchenna Okocha rounded out the double digit scorers with ten. W &J shot 49 percent from the field and 44 percent from the three point line. They were a solid 82 percent (14-17) at the foul line. They out rebounded NDC 32-28. They also had 9 assists and 15 turnovers.
The Falcons shot 45 percent from the field and 41 percent from the three point line. NDC struggled at the foul line going 10-17 (59 percent). The Falcons had 12 assists and 11 turnovers.
The Falcons will look to get back in the win column on Saturday when they travel to Findlay to battle the Oilers. Tip time is set for 3 PM.

Terriers Topple Falcons.

Hiram (2-0) and a key loss were too much to overcome for NDC in a 84-73 loss to the Terriers at Price Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons played much of the game without leading returning scorer Eric Dummermuth, who was limited to just eight minutes of action.

The Falcons (1-2) were led by four players in double figures. Phil Biggs and Marquice Taylor led NDC with 15 points each. Brennan Osborne had his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Troy Baugh provided a spark off the bench scoring 13 points and grabbing 8 rebounds.
Hiram had five players score in double figures on the afternoon. Jamaal Watkins led the way with 20 points. Aaron Steffanov added 12 points, Andrew Wiegand had a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds. Branden Means and Alan Sheppard added 12 and 11 points respectively.
Hiram shot 49 percent from the field while the Falcons shot 41 percent. Hiram shot 36 percent from the 3-point line as opposed to 27 percent from the Falcons. The Terriers were 9-12 from the foul line (75 percent) as opposed to 13-21 (62 percent) for the Falcons. The Terriers took advantage of Dummermuth's absence much of the way to win the battle of the boards 42-37. Both teams took good care of the ball, the Falcons had just five turnovers, while the Terriers had nine.
Hiram jumped out to a early 9-2 lead punctuated by a Watkins dunk 4 minutes in. NDC would fight back and tie the game at 19 on a Taylor jumper with 11:09 to go. The two teams would play even basketball for the next 11 minutes until a 3-pointer by Branden Means would spark the Terriers to a 38-37 halftime lead.
The Falcons would score the first five points of the second half to take a four point lead. With 16:34 to go it would be a four point lead for the Falcons on a Taylor Reiger jumper. The Terriers would then go on a 8-0 spurt to make it a 4 point lead of their own. The lead stretched to nine on a pair of occassions. The Falcons would cut it to four a couple times but that is as close as they would get. NDC will be back in action after a 10 day break when they welcome Washington and Jefferson on November 29th. Tip time is set for 7 PM.

Three point barrage buries Falcons.

The Notre Dame Falcons (1-1) fell 80-62 to the Youngstown State Penguins (2-0) at the Beeghly Center on Tuesday night.

The Penguins went 14 of 29 (48 percent) from the three point line in the contest. Four Penguins scored in double figures on the night. Kendrick Perry paced YSU with 18 points including three 3 pointers. Ashen Ward added 17 including five three's. Blake Allen netted 14, while Damian Eargle scored 12. The Penguins shot 40 percent from the field to go along with the 48 percent from the three point line. YSU won the battle of the boards 41-32, and they had 21 assists as opposed to just 9 turnovers.
The Falcons had a pair of players in double figures. Eric Dummermuth had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Marcquice Taylo added 13 to go along with 5 assists. NDC shot 41 percent from the field for the game. They also shot 42 percent (8 of 19) from three point land. NDC improved dramatically from the opener at the foul line going 14 of 17 (82 percent). The Falcons had 11 assists to go along with 17 turnovers.
The Falcons will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Hiram. Tip time in that game is set for 3 PM.

Falcons Rally For Opening Win.

Five Notre Dame Falcons scored in double figures as they came up with a 79-76 overtime win in the opener for both teams at Murphy Gymnasium on Friday night.

Freshman guard Marquise Taylor paced the Falcons with 21 points. Taylor Reiger netted 17 for NDC while Phil Biggs added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Eric Dummermuth was one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Brennan Osborn added 11 to round out the Falcons (1-0) double digit scorers.
Houghton (0-1) was led by three players in double figures. Chris Confair paced the Highlanders with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Mike Munoz and Matthew Dean added 15 each.
Houghton built a lead as large as 13 points in the opening half. After a 12-4 run closed the half, the Falcons cut the lead to five at the intermission. The Falcons got a big second half from Taylor, who was playing in his first collegiate game. He scored 15 of his 21 in the second stanza and overtime. Andrew Makori hit a three for the Highlanders with 8 seconds to play that looked like it could be the game winner. Phil Biggs got fouled attempting a three pointer and drained all three free throws to send the game into the extra session.
The Falcons started off the OT with a 6-0 run and would hang on for the three point win. NDC shot 42 percent from the floor and just 4-21 (19 percent) from the three point line. The Falcons struggled at the foul line going 23-37 (63 percent) although Biggs nailed the three that mattered most with one second left in regulation. NDC had 9 assists and 12 turnovers.
Houghton shot 48 percent from the field, including 53 percent in the opening half. The Highlanders shot 32 percent (8-25 from the three point line). Houghton cost themselves the game by going just 4-12 (33 percent) at the foul line. Houghton won the battle of the boards 45-41, had 13 assists and 14 turnovers.
The Falcons will be back in action Tuesday night when they travel to Youngstown to face the Penguins of Youngstown State. Tip time is set for 7:05 PM.
