NDC Hosts Urbana In Regular Season Finale Saturday.
The Notre Dame College Falcons close the regular season against the Urbana Blue Knights at Murphy Gym on Saturday. Tip time is set for 4 PM and you can catch all the action on NotreDameFalcons.com.
NDC (16-11 10-11 MEC) looks to get back on track, as they have lost five of the past six contests and are below .500 in the conference for the first time since early November. The last time out the Falcons were a 84-69 loser to Wheeling Jesuit. The Falcons were led by Will Vorhees with 23 points and six rebounds- Kobie Johnson added 13- Kyauta Taylor scored all 12 of his points in the first half- and- Drew Scarberry netted 11. The Cardinals were led by 20 points and 15 rebounds from Haywood Highsmith.
The Falcons come into Saturday averaging 82.6 points a game at the offensive end- while they allow 82.4 on the defensive end. The Falcons have won the rebounding battle most of the season, as they average 40.9 rebounds per night- as opposed to 37.2 for the opponent. The Falcons average more than two assists more than the opponent (18.9 to 16.6-) but average more than four turnovers more than the opposition (13.8 to 9.7) They average almost three more blocks a game than the opponent (4.7 to 1.8.) NDC comes into the regular season finale 7-5 at home on the season.
Will Vorhees continues to lead the team in both points a game (26-) and rebounds a night (10.3-) Kyauta Taylor has been solid all season and puts up 20.9 points per contest. The East Tech product leads the team with 41 steals on the year. Drew Scarberry rounds out the double digit scorers at 10.5 points a night- he shoots 47 percent from the 3-point line and 81 percent at the free throw line. Ja'Sean Lewis leads the team in assists at 5.3 per game- to go along with 9.9 rebounds- and- 8.8 points a contest.
Urbana (11-16 6-15 MEC) comes in losers of four of the past five. The Blue Knights are coming off a 121-90 loss to West Liberty last time out. The Blue Knights were led by four players in double figures in that game. Dequan Abrom led the way with 21 points- Jahmere Howze had 17- while Carlas Jackson and Jimmy Weinke each scored 16. West Liberty was paced by six players in double figures. David Dennis led the way with 28- and- the Hilltoppers shot 62 percent as a team in the contest- including 40 percent from the 3-point line.
The Blue Knights average 83.3 points a game on offense- but defensively they have really struggled while allowing 89.3 a contest. The Blue Knights have been out rebounded by nearly four rebounds a night (38.9 to 35.1.) They come into the contest with a identical 5-8 record both at home and on the road.
The Blue Knights have three players who average double figures. Howze leads the way at 16 per night- Abrom scores 15.6 a contest- and- Jackson scores 14.5 a night. Abrom leads the team in assists at 2.4 per game- while Howze leads the team in rebounding at 5.7 per night.
The two teams met back on January 19th with NDC coming out on top 96-75 at Murphy Gym. NDC was 13-4 at the time and has gone just 3-7 since. Vorhees poured in a game high 42 in that contest- while Taylor added 23- while Ja'Sean Lewis posted a double-double (12 points and 14 rebounds.) Jackson led Urbana with 15 in that loss.
The two teams will each go on to the Mountain East Conference Tournament after this. Times and pairings will be released late Saturday evening.
