Vikings Continue Falcons Road Woes.
If Wednesday night at the Wolstein Center was any indication the difference between a Division I school like Cleveland State and a DII from the Mountain East Conference like Notre Dame College is one half of basketball. The Falcons hung with CSU for a half, before ultimately falling 97-72 at the Wolstein Center.
CSU improved to 6-5 on the year, as they won for the fifth time in six contests at the Wolstein Center. The Vikings had four players score in double figures on the evening. Brynn Forbes paced the Vikings with 27 points- on 5- of- 10 shooting from the 3-point line. Marlin Mason added 15, Sebastien Douglas posted 13, and Trey Lewis had 10 for CSU. The Vikings shot a blistering 61 percent from the floor. They were very solid from the 3-point line, shooting 50 percent (9 of 18.) CSU also shot 81 percent at the foul line on the evening. They easily won the rebounding battle 37-25. CSU had 20 assists and 13 turnovers.
The loss did not affect the Falcons record (3-6) since it was considered exhibition. The Falcons lone player in double figures was Tyree Gaiter with 24. Lawrence DeArmond tallied nine, while a trio of players (Jarvis Huntley, Kaloma Figueroa-Jackson, and Geovante Rose) scored eight each. The Falcons shot 46 percent as a team, and made 32 percent from the 3-point line. NDC was just 69 percent (11-16) at the foul line. NDC had 15 assists and 13 turnovers.
The first half went back and forth with the lead changing hands several times. The Falcons had a brief 34-33 lead with 3:17 left in the opening half after a Gaiter lay-up. The Vikings would go on a run right before halftime and lead 41-37 at the break. That run would continue in the second half, as the Vikings would score the first six points to stretch the lead to 10 (47-37.) The Falcons would score the next four and cut it to six (47-41) but that is as close as they would get the rest of the way.
NDC will be back in action Saturday as they will travel to Findlay to take on the Oilers. Tip time is set for 1 PM.
