Falcons Stung Again.
The Notre Dame Falcons (6-14) could not find there stroke from the 3-point line and were stung for a second time this season by the Cedarville Yellow Jackets 70-57 at Murphy Gym.
The Falcons who have been solid from three much of the season were just 1 of 16 from the 3-point line Saturday. Marcquice Taylor was the only Falcon to score in double figures with 18 points. Phil Biggs added nine points and nine rebounds, while Lawrence DeArmond also tallied nine points. The Falcons shot 44 percent from the field and only made 62 percent (8-13) at the free throw line. The Falcons had only eight assists as a team. They turned the ball over 17 times.
With the win Cedarville stretched it's current winning streak to four. The Jackets improved to 14-7 on the season. The Jackets had a pair of players score double figures. Zimmy Nwogbo led the Jackets with 17 points to go along with eight rebounds. Austin Foote chipped in 14 and Marcus Reineke tallied nine. Cedarville shot 42 percent from the field in just it's fourth road win of the season. The Yellow Jackets shot 9 of 25 from the 3-point line. They did get hot in the second half, going 5 of 11. They made good on 79 percent at the foul line (15-19). The Jackets won the battle of the boards 38-32. Cedarville had 14 assists as opposed to 15 turnovers.
The Jackets never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 13-2 lead right out of the gate. The Falcons ran off the next six points and cut the lead to five (13-8) on a DeArmond lay up with 10:11 in the opening half. The Jackets would built another double digit lead but the Falcons would once again get within five (24-19). Cedarville would then go on a 14-3 run to open up a 16 point lead (38-22.) The Falcons would score the last bucket of the half and trail 38-24 at the intermission.
Both teams would come out cold in the second half. Austin Foote would hit a three to give the Yellow Jackets a 17 point lead nearly two minutes into the frame. NDC would not get any closer than 10 the rest of the way.
The Falcons will be back in action when they host Ohio State Lima on Monday. Tip time is set for 6 PM at Murphy Gym.
