Where Are They Now: Eric Dummermuth
In the second segment of Where Are They Now for former Notre Dame College basketball players I caught up with Eric Dummermuth. The 6 foot 6 230 lbs. former three time All-American who hails from and currently lives in Dover,OH. He played in every game in his NDC career and is second in scoring in program history. He holds the single season record in both points (664) and rebounds (326.)
Dummermuth also holds the NDC single season freshman scoring record with 538 points. He was the AMC Freshman Of The Year and scored in double figures in 29 of 31 games , including 22 straight that year. He had 14 double-doubles- and- scored 20 or more points nine times. The team went 19-12 that season before falling to national powerhouse Walsh in the AMC Championship Game.
In the 2009-10 season he averaged 22 points and 10.8 rebounds a night. Was First-Team All AMC and a Second- Team NAIA All-American. Averaged 21.3 points and 11 rebounds a game the following season. The team finished 20-11 the next season and he was a First Team All-American. In the 2010-11 season the Falcons struggled thru a 11-19 season. In the 2011-12 season the Falcons went 10-17. Dummermuth tallied 52 career double-doubles.
I asked Dummermuth a series of questions.
Q: What are you doing for work and where do you live?
A: I live in Dover,OH now. I work as a boiler worker in the power and light plant for the city of Dover.
Q: What values were instilled in you at NDC that you still use to this day?
A: The values that I learned at NDC were to always work hard in pursuit of the goals you want to accomplish. I learned that nothing is given to us and that we need to work hard everyday to be better as a human being and an athlete.
Q: Do you still follow the basketball program?
A: I still follow the basketball program and watch games online when I can.
Q: What can we do to get more alumni to come back for games and events?
A: As the school and athletics grow and the community gets more involved, they will get more people to games and events. I think the school is on the rise and is continuing to grow which is a positive.
Q: How good do you think this season's team can be?
A: NDC can be very good this year. They have some guys coming back that were big contributors on last year's team, and Coach Koenig has done a great job of recruiting some players that fit the style of play that NDC wants to play. They play in a very tough league. Any team can beat anybody on any given night in that league.
Q: What do you think makes Will Vorhees such a great player?
A: What makes Will such a great player is his size and skill set. I also think he is a very smart player that can do a variety of things on both ends of the court.
Q: Do you see some similarities between his game now and yours when you were a player?
A: I do see some similarities, especially in the way he rebounds the ball and is a great scorer.
Q: Do you stay in contact with any of your former teammates? It seemed like you guys were a very tight group when you played together.
A: I try to stay in contact with the guys we played with as much as possible. It is a lot tougher now as guys are busy with work and starting to have families now.
Q: What did you learn about NDC that you did not know before you came? Whether it be basketball related or just in general.
A: First of all that the place existed (ha ha.) Before Coach Kevin Billie recruited me I had never heard of the school. Then I learned that it was an all-girls school not too long ago and that surprised me as well.
