Charleston Shoots Past Falcons.
Charleston College came into Murphy Gym Monday night and did something no team, not even the #1 team in the country could do on the Falcons home floor. The Golden Eagles dismantled the Falcons 95-63 behind some unbelievable 3-point shooting.
Charleston (West Va.) improved to 9-4 overall and 6-3 in the Mideast Conference with a fourth straight win. The Golden Eagles had three players tally double figures on the evening. Xavier Humphrey paced Charleston with six 3-pointer's en route to 24 points. Aleksander Kesic netted 17- and Denzel Douglas netted 16. The Golden Eagles shot it well from both the field (57.4 percent) and the 3-point line where they were a unthinkable 74 percent (14-19.) The Golden Eagles struggled at the foul line where they shot 65 percent (11-17.) The Golden Eagles man handled the Falcons in the rebounding battle 43-29. The Golden Eagles had 18 assists and 11 turnovers.
The Falcons dropped to 5-9 overall and 3-5 MEC after suffered there worst home loss of the season. The previous worst was a 126-103 loss to then top ranked West Liberty. The Falcons were paced by 14 points from Jarvis Huntley- Lawrence DeArmond netted 10- and Geovonte Rose chipped in nine. The Falcons shot 41 percent from the field and hit on just 27 percent (4-15) from the 3-point line. NDC was atrocious at the foul line where they shot 54 percent (7-13.) The Falcons had 13 assists and nine turnovers.
The game started with the team's trading buckets for the first six minutes and the Falcons would have a 13-10 lead after a DeArmond layup with 14:01 to play in the half. Humphrey caught fire for Charleston and scored eight of the team's next 10 points in a 10-0 run that gave them a seven point lead (20-13.) Things would only get more lopsided as the Golden Eagles would open up a 25 point lead (50-25) at halftime.
The second half was much like the first. Things did not get any closer and the Golden Eagles would cruise to the 32 point victory.
NDC will be back in action Saturday when they take on another Mountain East opponent in Glenville State. Tip time Saturday is 4 PM.
