Falcons Late Rally Falls Short.
The Notre Dame Falcons fell to 5-12 overall with a 68-65 loss at Urbana on Wednesday. The win completed a season sweep of NDC for the Blue Knights.
Urbana (5-11) had a trio of players score in double figures Wednesday. Sharriff Muhhamed Jr. and Danny Goins had 18 points each for the Blue Knights, while Dyrell Doison added 10. Urbana shot 52 percent from the floor and 6-16 from the 3-point line in the win. The Blue Knights struggled at the foul line shooting 61 percent (14-23). Urbana dominated the boards 32-22. They had 13 assists to go along with 18 turnovers.
The Falcons also had three players in double figures. Taylor Reiger led the way with 16 points. Phil Biggs tallied 13, while Marcquice Taylor contributed 12 in the loss. The Falcons shot 47 percent from the field and hot 6-16 from the 3-point line. They were a solid 87 percent (13-15) at the foul line. The Falcons had 13 assists to go along with 13 turnovers.
The loss for the Falcons was their eighth in the last nine contests, including five straight away from Murphy Gym. The Blue Knights led by as many as 12 (56-44) with nine minutes left. Reiger and Nate Ensz made six straight free throws to get the Falcons within 61-56. After back to back lay ups by Reiger and Troy Baugh the Falcons were within 3 (68-65). The Falcons had a chance to tie but a Phil Biggs three did not go.
NDC will be back in action when it faces Wilberforce at Murphy Gym Friday night. Tip time is set for 7 PM.
