Nationally Ranked Walsh Drops NDC In Sloppy Contest!

The Walsh Cavaliers came into Korb Field on Saturday and picked up a sloppy 34-14 win over the Notre Dame College Falcons, in the Falcons second home contest of the inauguaral season of Falcon football. Walsh came into the game ranked tenth in the couuntry but hardly looked like it in this one. Walsh committed 4 turnovers including a pair of fumbles by running back Dominick Williams. The Cavaliers had 4 turnovers in the ballgame. Walsh had no trouble running the ball against the Falcons defense. Williams tallied 174 yards on 31 carries for the visitors. Toba Olarewaju added 30 yards on 8 carries. Williams had a 25 yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Olarewaju also added a touchdown. Rashid Sharif had 1 carry for 7 yards and a TD. Joe Morgan led the Cavalier receiving core with 8 catches for 75 yards. Morgan also had 17 yards on 2 rushes in the game. A.J Bunton had a TD catch. Jim Shiplett was 13 of 22 for 144 yards with a TD as well as an interception. The Cavaliers had 363 yards of total offense in the contest. Walsh was only flagged twice for 30 yards.

The Falcons had the first 100 yard rusher in the first season of varsity football. Pedro Powell carried the ball 18 times for 110 yards including a 32 yarder. Derrick Paster led the Falcon receivers with 5 catches for 104 yards and a score. The Falcons had 323 yards of total offense. The miscues were the story of this one though. Yan Cyr threw three first half interceptions and the Falcons were flagged 12 times for 165 yards.
Walsh jumped out early and took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 8 play 76 yard drive capped by a Domick Williams 25 yard TD scamper and that's where we would stand after one quarter. Matt Preston (Warren,OH Howland HS) would throw the game tying score on a trick play. Preston would line up in the slot and take a pitch from Qb Yan Cyr and then would connect on a 35 yard TD with Derrick Paster (Berea,OH Berea HS) to tie it at 7 with 12 minutes left in the first half. The rest of the half would be dominated by Walsh. Toba Olarewaju would turn a Cyr interception into a 14-7 Walsh lead on a 4 yard run. Cyr Would then throw another pick in the shadow of his own goal line that Aaron Fore would take down to the 7 yard line. Rashid Sharif would make it 21-7 on a 7 yard run to give the Cavaliers a 21-7 lead. Eric Buchannan would add a 40 yard field goal right before the intermission and it would be Walsh 24 NDC 7 at the break. Walsh would open the second half scoring with a 35 yard pass from Shiplett to A.J. Gunton to make it 31-7 late in the third quarter. Buchannan would add another field goal to make it 34-7 in the fourth.
NDC would switch quarterbacks after the intermission. James Flowers would take over after the break. Flowers would throw a 67 yards pass to Travis Hernandez to cap the scoring in the 4th quarter. Flowers was 6 of 13 for 142 yards and a touchdown in relief of Cyr who was just 6 of 16 for 44 yards and three interceptions. The Falcons (1-3) will be back in action Saturday as they will travel to Taylor,Indiana and do battle with the Taylor University Trojans (1-2). Kickoff is set for 1 PM at Jim Wheeler Memorial Stadium. Walsh (3-0) will return home for a noon tilt with Urbana University on Saturday.
