Historic Night Ends In Loss For Falcons.

The Notre Dame Falcons were 23-0 losers in the first ever football game in the 88 year history of Notre Dame College. The Lakers from Mercyhurst outplayed NDC in front of 3126 people at Korb Field at Brush High School. The Falcons will call Korb Field their home field for the remainder of the 2010 season.

The first quarter was a defensive struggle for both squads. It did not help NDC when quarterback Yan Cyr suffered a concussion on the second series and did not return. The Lakers would take a 3-0 lead on the first of three field goals by kicker Steven Wakefield (a 30 yarder). This field goal capped a 10 play 66 yard drive with 1:36 in the first quarter. A 5 play 75 yard drive by Mercyhurst would give the Lakers a 10-0 lead as Andrew Bailey would score on a 1 yard run. It would be the first of a pair of touchdowns for Bailey. Dak Britt would throw a interception that would set up another second quarter Lakers score. The Falcons defense who were led most of the night by Bob Hansen and Gary Briggs would hold Mercyhurst to another Wakefield field goal and it would be 13-0 Mercyhurst at the intermission. The Lakers would add a Wakefield field goal in the third quarter as well as another TD run. This one was a three yarder by Bailey. The Falcons would get in the red zone in the latter stages of the fourth quarter but would be stopped on 4th and 2 inside the 20 as the Lakers would preserve the shutout.
