Fighting Falcons Fly Past NDC!

Saturday afternoon was a battle of two schools with similar nicknames. The similarities pretty much stop there though. The Notre Dame Falcons fell 38-0 at the hands of the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons in front of 3159 fans at Duvall Rosier Field in Fairmont, West Va.

FSU came out of the gates quickly. The 17 time conference champions wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. On the second play from scrimmage Perry Baker caught a 62 yard dart from Perry Moore and the Fighting Falcons led 7-0 just 56 seconds in. After NDC got a couple of first downs they would have to punt it away to the dangerous FSU offense. This time the Fighting Falcons would go 52 yards on 8 plays capped off by a Pat Pinchinat 1 yard TD run that would make it 14-0 FSU. That is where we would stand after a quarter of play. FSU would then get another Pinchinat score that was set up when Yan Cyr would be picked off for the blue and white. Logan Moore would have a 38 yard run, Frank Keenan would add a 19 yard field goal and then Perry Baker would cap off the scoring catching a 54 yard touchdown this time from backup Qb Brandon Hyler. The Fighting Falcons improved to 2-0 on the young campaign. FSU would rack up 534 yards total offense in the game including 278 yards rushing. The Fighting Falcons did have 6 penalties for 75 yards in the game. Pinchinat led FSU with 16 carries for 84 yards and a pair of TD's. Logan Moore was 16 of 23 throwing the ball for 202 yards and a TD. He also had 5 carries for 56 yards. Brandon Hyler completed his only pass attempt for a 54 yard TD. Perry Baker paced the receiving core for FSU with 6 catches for 158 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The Falcons from NDC (1-2) playing in just the third game in program history improved on offense despite not getting into the end zone. Yan Cyr returned after suffering a concussion in week one vs Mercyhurst and played only 1 series in the first two games. The Falcons had 15 first downs and 233 yards in total offense. NDC had 119 yards rushing and were flagged 8 times for 64 yards. The leading rusher for Notre Dame was Pedro Powell (Liberty,OH Lakota East HS) who had 11 carries for 53 yards. QB Yan Cyr had 42 yards rushing along with 114 passing and was picked once. Derrick Paster (Berea,OH Berea HS) was the top reciever for NDC catching 4 balls for 51 yards including a 35 yarder. Cayle Chapman continued his sold punting as he had 8 punts for an average of 42.5 yards including a 64 yarder in the first half. Garry Briggs (8 tackles, John Hyde (7 tackles) and a few Falcons including Derrick Smith and Bo Grunder added 6 tackles to pace the Falcons D. Notre Dame College will return home for the second home game of the season with Walsh University on Saturday September 18th. Kickoff is set for 1 PM at Korb Field. Fairmont State will travel to Shepherdstown, West Va. and do battle with Shepherd.
