Balaced Attack, Huge Second Half Lead Falcons Past Algoma!!

The Notre Dame Falcons shook off a shaky first half, as all five starters scored in double figures in NDC's 90-57 win over Algoma. The first half started very slowly for both teams. Eric Dummermuth split a pair of free throws with 18:44 in the half for the first point of the game for either team. The two teams would both struggle on offense in the early going. A lay up by Karim McFarlane would give the "blue and white" a 5-2 lead five minutes in. A basket by Dele Oworu would cut the Falcons lead to 1. The Falcons would then finally open it up a little. It would be 22-12 NDC with 5 minutes in the half. A three pointer by Cameron Carlin with 1:54 in the half would give the Falcons their largest lead of the half at 29-18. The Thunderbirds (7-3) would not go quietly as they would score the last five points of the half to cut the halftime deficit to 29-23.

The Falcons (10-5)would come out sizzling in the second half. Eric Dummermuth after being plagued with foul trouble would come out and score the first 4 points of the half. An Owaru hoop would cut the lead back to 8 early in the second half. NDC would then go on a 9-0 run to make it 42-25 after a Karim McFarlane hoop 4 minutes into the second stanza. The Thunderbirds would hang around, and cut the lead to 10 (45-35) with 12 minutes in the game. The Falcons would go on a 14-4 run to make the lead 20 on another Carlin triple. Algoma would cut the lead to 14 (59-45) with 8 minutes to go and that's as close as they would get. Over the next six minutes Notre Dame would outscore the Thunderbirds 22-4 to open up a 32 point lead punctuated by a pair of dunks by Dummermuth. The final would be 90-57.
All five Falcons starters would score in double figures. Dummermuth led the way with 20, Phil Biggs had 19, Nick McCartney added 13, and a pair of players (Karim McFarlane and Al Miller) chipped in 11.
The Thunderbirds were led by 17 points and 13 rebounds from Dele Owaru. O'Brien Wallace netted 15, and Erik Edwards had 12. Notre Dame will be back in action Friday night with a 6 PM tip @Houghton.
