Something To Build On?
The Notre Dame Falcons came into Wednesday's men's basketball game at the Wolstein Center with nothing to lose and everything to gain. They went out and gave Cleveland State all they could handle before falling 77-66.
With it being an exhibition game the loss did not count against the Falcons record so they stayed at 2-7 on the season. Eric Dummermuth led the way for the Falcons, he missed a double-double by one rebound as the fifth year senior ended up with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Tyree Gaiter continued his solid freshman year. The freshman from Cleveland Heighs High added 16 points, Lawrence DeArmond also chipped in 12 for the Falcons. The Falcons shot 51 percent from the floor and made 4-12 from the 3-point line. The Falcons were 10 of 14 at the line. They had 11 assists while they were hurt by 27 turnovers. NDC won the rebounding battle 28-22.
CSU improved to 7-4 on the season, as for the second time this season they were truly tested by a DII school. The Vikings were a one point winner over Alabama Huntsville earlier in the season. The win was the 300th for CSU coach Gary Watters. The Vikings had five players score in double figures. Marlin Mason led the way with 19 points, Bryn Forbes added 12, Charlie Lee netted 11, while Tim Kamczyc and Sebastien Douglass posted 10 each. The Vikings shot 60 percent from the floor and made 5 of 16 from the 3-point line. The Vikes were just 8 of 14 at the foul line and had 21 assists as well as 21 turnovers.
The Falcons will return to the court next Friday when they battle the Buffalo Bulls. Tip time is set for 7 PM.
