NDC Topples Cheyney.

The Notre Dame Falcons got off to a slow start, but came away with a 69-63 win Saturday night at the West Liberty tournament. With the win NDC improved to 2-0 for the third straight season.  Cheney fell to 0-2 with the loss.
  NDC was led by the trio of Will Vorhees- Kyauta Taylor and Ja'Sean Lewis.  Vorhees led the way with 24 points- Taylor added 18 points- while Lewis posted a double-double with 15 points and a game high 18 rebounds. Lewis also blocked seven shots.  The Falcons shot 43 percent from the field in the victory. They got the win despite a tough night from the 3-point line, where they went 4-26 (15 percent) and also struggling at the free throw line where they shot 61 percent (11-18.)  The Falcons won the rebounding battle 44-40.  they had 15 assists and 14 turnovers.
   Cheyney was led Craig MCGlond with 15 points- while Rafiq Marshall scored 13.  Basic Fulmore and Imir Bailey added eight points each.  The Wolves shot 39 percent as a team- and were 3 of 8 from the 3-point line.  They shot 60 percent (6-10) from the free throw line.  They had 13 assists and 13 turnovers in the defeat.
  NDC come out flat and missed the first five shots that they took.  At the 15:45 mark of the opening half they would trail by seven (9-2.)  In the next five minutes NDC would battle back and go on a 13-4 run to take a 15-13 lead at the 10:38 mark of the opening half.  The rest of the first half was filled with modest runs, but neither team could shake the other. At the half NDC would hold a two point lead (36-34) after a Drew Scarberry jumper with 17 seconds in the half.
  The second half was tightly contested and the game was still in doubt with three minutes to go.  The Falcons would take the lead for good after a Kobie Johnson jumper. That would spark a 6-0 NDC run that was capped by a Vorhees bucket, with a Taylor hoop in between. NDC would lead 64-58 at the 1:25 mark.  NDC would ice it at the free throw line.
  The Falcons will be back in action Tuesday night.  MercyHurst will come to Murphy Gym for the Falcons home opener. Tip time is set for 7 PM.
