Falcons Hang On Against Pioneers.

The Notre Dame College Falcons held off a pair of second half surges by Glenville State to hang on for a 78-72 win Monday night at the Waco Center. With the win NDC improved to 7-3 on the year and 2-3 in the MEC. After the loss the Pioneers fell to 5-6 and 2-3 in league play.
Kyauta Taylor led the way for NDC with 25 points on the evening- both Will Vorhees (12 points and nine rebounds-) and Ja'Sean Lewis (nine points and 10 rebounds) were a rebound shy of a double-double.  The Falcons shot 47 percent from the field in the win. They were a solid 40 percent (8-20) from the 3-point line. The Falcons were terrible from the foul line where they were also 8-20 (40 percent.)  NDC won the rebounding battle 47-42.  They had the same number of assists (15) as turnovers (also 15.)
The Pioneers had four players tally double figures in the defeat. They were paced by 28 points from Sedric Nady- Jalon Plummer scored 14- Brett Morris added a double-double (11 points and 12 rebound.-) while Micah Thomas rounded out the double digit scorers with 10.
As a team GSU shot 33 percent from the field- 30 percent (11-37) from the 3-point line.  They shot 61 percent (19-31) from the free throw line.  GSU had 14 assists and 16 turnovers.
The game began with both teams being ice cold from the floor. After a layup by Vorhees and the first of five 3-pointers by Taylor on the night NDC would lead 5-0 3:30 minutes in.  The Pioneers would fight back and knot the game at 11 with 13:07 until halftime.  A 3-pointer by Najeeb Johnson would give NDC the lead back. One they would keep for the rest of the half.  The Falcons would lead by five (18-13) at the 8:52 mark of the first half.  NDC would go up by seven (25-18) after another 3-pointer by Taylor. Plummer would answer for the Pioneers though to cut the lead to four (25-21.)  NDC would end up taking a seven point (32-25) halftime lead.
The second half would start much like the first did as NDC would get a 3-pointer by Taylor at the 15:30 mark to grow the lead to double digits (42-32.)  The lead would then go up to 12 (47-35) after a Lewis jumper at the 13:15 mark.  Over the next three minutes GSU would go on a 12-0 run to tie the game at 47.  The Falcons would counter with a 9-1 spurt of their own sparked by another Taylor 3-pointer.  NDC would lead 56-48 at that point.  The Pioneers would once again counter with a run of their own. This time a 10-3 spurt that would tie things up at 61 with 5:35 to go.  The next four minutes would give the Falcons a slight edge and they would lead by three (71-68) with a minute to go.  With 50 seconds left Taylor would drill his fifth and final 3-pointer of the night. NDC would hang on late, despite some suspect foul shooting.
NDC will be back in action Wednesday when they take on West Virginia Wesleyan. Tip time is set for 7:30PM.
