Concord Stops Streaking Falcons.

The Notre Dame College Falcons (9-4 4-3 MEC) had a season high four game win steak snapped Saturday at Murphy Gym. The Falcons were a 99-97 loser to the Concord Mountain Lions (9-4 3-4 MEC.)  The win by the Mountain Lions snapped a three game game losing streak.
  NDC had four players tally double figures on the day. Tyree Gaiter led the way with 31 points- Will Vorhees also had a big game with 29- Ja'Sean Lewis chipped in 19- while Kyauta Taylor netted 10.  The Falcons shot 54 percent (37-68) from the field. They also shot 44 percent (12-27) from the 3-point line. NDC shot at a 65 percent clip (11-17) from the free throw line.  NDC won the rebounding battle 35-33.  They had 16 assists, but turned it over 18 times.
  The Mountain Lions placed six in double figures for the game.  Aaron Miller drained seven 3-pointer's for his 29 points- Cameron Shannon drained five 3-pointer's to get his 15- Rob Reed added 13- Jametrius Wade tallied 12- Michael Sanchez added 11- while Terry Hopewell scored 10.  The Mountain Lions shot 53 percent (35-66) from the field- they nailed 42 percent (16-38) from the 3-point line- while they shot at a 62 percent clip (13-21) from the free throw line.  The Mountain Lions had 18 assists and 17 turnovers.
  Both teams came out ready to go and scored at a rapid pace in the early going.  After five and a half minutes NDC would get a Vorhees layup to take a three point lead (21-18.)  The Mountain Lions would then run off the next eight points to take a five point lead (26-21.)  The teams would play even basketball until Gaiter would hit a 3-pointer to bring NDC within one (34-33) at the 7:49 mark.
  The Mountain Lions would counter once again.  Concord would go on a 15-4 run to take a 12 point lead (49-37) with 3:37 to go in the half. NDC would get to within five (51-46) right before halftime.  Miller would an a 3-pointer to give the Mountain Lions a 54-46 halftime lead.
  The second half would see the Mountain Lions lead but the Falcons would get to within one a few times.  It would be 65-64 Mountain Lions at the 11:47 mark after a Ja'Sean Lewis 3-pointer. Concord would stretch it back out to five but the Falcons would get to within one again (75-74) after a pair of Gaiter free throws at the 8:35 mark.  The Mountain Lions would then go on a 12-3 run to open up another double digit lead (87-77) at the 5:14 mark.  Gaiter would single handedly keep the Falcons within striking distance by scoring the last 11 points.  Gaiter's third basket in 1:10, a jumper with 31 seconds left would trim the lead to one (98-97.)  The Mountain Lions would get one free throw, then force a pair of NDC turnovers in the final 15 seconds to secure the victory.
  NDC will be back in action when they host Virginia Wise on Tuesday night. Tip time is set for 7:30 at Murphy Gym.
