Gaiter Sets Record As Falcons Roll Past Yellow Jackets.

Tyree Gaiter became the all time assist leader for Notre Dame College with 7:33 left in the opening half of the Falcons 104-87 victory over West Virginia State at Murphy Gym. On a night when he set the all time assists record (he broke the previous record held by Jerome Pierce of 481) the Cleveland Heights grad nailed seven 3-pointer's and went 9- of- 9 at the free throw line to score 42 points.  With the win NDC improved to 5-2 on the year and 1-2 in the MEC. With the loss West Virginia State fell to 3-4 and 1-2 in the MEC.
Gaiter added six assists and six steals to go with his 42 points. His assist on a pass to Ja'Sean Lewis with 7:33 to go was the record breaker.  Will Vorhees added a double-double (26 points and 17 rebounds-) that Lewis matched with one of his own (17 points and 11 rebounds.)  NDC shot 48 percent from the field in the victory. This included shooting at a 44 percent clip (10-23) from the 3-point line.  NDC shot 74 percent (20-27) from the free throw line.  They also won the rebounding battle 47-42.  The Falcons posted 17 assists and turned the ball over 14 times.
WVSU was paced by Markee Maczyk who netted 29 points- Ronald Waley scored 13-with Frank Webb adding 12.  The Yellow Jackets shot 44 percent from the field. They did not shoot the ball well from the 3-point line where they shot 27 percent (7-31.)  They shot at a 82 percent clip (18-22) at the free throw line.  They had 13 assists and turned it over 19 times.
The Falcons controlled the game from the opening tip in a game that they never trailed. Vorhees scored the game's first six points as the Falcons would jump out to a 8-0 lead in the first two and a half minutes.  The lead would grow to 11 (16-5) just a couple minutes later.  NDC would maintain that 11 point lead (56-45) going into halftime.
The Jackets did not quit.  They would get to within seven (74-67) at the 10:27 mark but that is as close as they would get. NDC would run off the next eight points to regain control and cruise from there.  The 42 points by Gaiter were the second most in his NDC career.
NDC will be back in action Saturday when they welcome Charleston to Murphy Gym. Tip time is set for 4 PM.
