Falcons Hold Off Lakers Late.

The Notre Dame Falcons held off a late surge by Mercyhurst for a 62-57 win at Murphy Gym on Saturday afternoon.  The two teams now have identical 6-3 records.
  NDC placed five players in double figures on the afternoon. Ryan Hickoff led the Falcons with 14 points- Will Vorhees had 13- - while Tyree Gaiter, Marco Colombo and Jacob Sawman scored 10 a piece.  The Falcons shot 43 percent from the floor in the victory. They shot 36 percent (5-14) from the 3-point line.  They were a solid 74 percent (20-27) at the free throw line.  The Falcons won the rebounding battle 38-35. They had the same number of assists (17) as turnovers (17.)
  The Lakers had three players tally double figures. Damon Jones scored 14 to lead Mercyhurst- Gerrae Williams added 11- while Sean Beins scored 10.  The Lakers shot 41 percent from the floor in the defeat.  They shot 35 percent (6-17) from the 3-point line.  They struggled at the foul line, shooting 60 percent (12-20.)  They had 13 assists and 15 turnovers.
  The Falcons led for the entire first half.  They would lead by as many as nine in the first 10 minutes.  (18-9) at the 10:45 mark.  The Lakers would fight back and get to within two (23-21) with a few ticks under six minutes remaining in the half.  Hickoff would spark a 10-0 run with a pair of 3-pointers and NDC led by 12. That lead would grow to 14 (39-25) at the break.
  The Falcons would stretch the lead to 16 (41-25) before the Lakers would go on another spurt. This time a 13-2 run would get the Lakers within five (43-38) at the 14:55 mark.
 The Lakers would take a lead after a Williams 3-pointer at the three minute mark.  A Vorhees dunk on a break away would spark a 8-2 Falcons run to regain control.  The Falcons would go on to the victory.
  NDC will be back in action Friday when they take on Lincoln University (PA.) Tip time is set for 7 PM.
