Cold Shooting NDC Falls To Charleston.
The Notre Dame Falcons could not find there shooting strokes on Saturday and ultimately would fall to Charleston 73-66 at Murphy Gym. With the loss NDC dropped to 5-3 overall and 1-3 in the MEC. Charleston would improve to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the MEC.
The Golden Eagles placed four players in double figures in this one. Aleksander Kesic led the way with 15 points and 13 rebounds- Tino Datrapono and Cameron Dozier added 11 each- while Justin Coleman chipped in 10 of his own. The Golden Eagles shot 41 percent from the field in the victory. They were solid from both the 3-point line (7-15 for 46 percent) and from the free throw line (22-26 for 85 percent.) The Golden Eagles also won the rebounding battle 44-35. They had 10 assists and 14 turnovers.
The Falcons placed a pair of players in double figures. Tyree Gaiter scored 26 points- while Will Vorhees added 23. Ja'Sean Lewis led the Falcons with 14 rebounds. NDC shot just 36 percent in the defeat. They struggled from the 3-point line (8-27 for 30 percent-) and from the free throw line (16-26 for 62 percent.) NDC had 10 assists and 13 turnovers.
The Falcons cold shooting began from the opening tip. Six minutes in they would trail 13-8. NDC would trail 25-17 at the 9:43 mark of the opening half. Vorhees accounted for 10 of those 17 points. NDC would continue to battle and would trail by just three (31-28) after a Kyauta Taylor free throw at the 4:17 mark. Charleston would stretch the lead out to 10 (41-31) before Najeeb Johnson would nail a 3-pointer to cut the Charleston lead to seven (41-34) at halftime.
The first five minutes of the second stanza would see NDC trim what was a seven point halftime lead to six (51-45.) The Golden Eagles would lead by as many as 12 (65-53) at the 5:37 mark. NDC would not go away though, as they would go on a 8-0 run to cut the lead to four (65-61) after a Gaiter 3-pointer at the 1:41 mark. That is as close as NDC would get, as the Golden Eagles would make eight of 10 free throws to seal the victory.
NDC will take the week off and be back in action Saturday December 12th when they face Mercyhurst. Tip time is set for 3 PM.
