Three's Company. Falcons Use Solid 3-point Shooting to Secure Win.
What a difference a week makes. The Notre Dame College Falcons were 6-11 on the year going into this week's play. Who would have ever guessed what was to come in the coming week? After a solid 86-72 win to complete the season sweep of Concord (West Va.) the outlook for the rest of the season is even different for the Falcons then it was a week ago. Thursday night saw the Falcons score the biggest win in program history when they knocked off top ranked West Liberty (West.Va) 89-87. Saturday the Falcons took care of business at Murphy Gym.
The Falcons (8-11 6-7 MEC) were paced by Tyree Gaiter who netted 24 points. Gaiter added five rebounds and six assists. Kaloma Figueroa-Jackson nailed six of seven 3-pointer's en route to a 20 point effort. Lawrence DeArmond added 16- and- Geovante Rose chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds. NDC shot 56 percent (31-55) from the field. They shot at a 50 percent clip (11-22) from the 3-point line on the evening. NDC had a very good night at the foul line where they shot 87 percent (13-15.) The Falcons had 20 assists and only turned it over eight times.
The Mountain Lions (6-14 3-11 MEC) fell to 0-10 on the road this season. They were led by a 19 point day from Mike Boyd. Paul Byrd added 18- and- Terry Hopewell added a double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds.) The Mountain Lions shot 47 percent (28-60) from the field on the day. They had 12 assists and turned the ball over nine times.
NDC building off the win over West Liberty Thursday came out of the gates quickly Saturday and never let up. The first 14 minutes of the games saw neither team lead by more than four points. NDC would lead by three (39-36) with 2:52 in the half. The Falcons would close the half on a 8-1 run and led by 10 (47-37) at the half.
The second half would belong to the Falcons. The Mountain Lions would get to within seven (64-57) on a Cam Shannon jumper but that is as close as they would get the rest of the way.
NDC will be back in action Monday night when they take on Viginia Wise at Murphy Gym. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM.
