Falcons Fall in Porrero Cup Opener.
The Notre Dame Falcons dropped a fourth straight round contest and fell to 2-6 on the season with a 81-66 loss to Gannon at the Hammermill Center in Erie,PA on Friday night. The loss drops the Falcons into the consolaton bracket on Saturday.
The Falcons had just two players score in double figures Friday night. Eric Dummermuth led NDC with 16 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Tyree Gaiter put up 13 points in 34 minutes, although the freshman was just 4 of 14 from the floor (2-8 from the 3-point line.) Marcquice Taylor added nine points for the Falcons. The Falcons shot 41 percent from the floor and hit 35 percent (7-20) from the 3-point line. The Falcons continued to struggle at the foul line shooting 58 percent (11-19.) The Falcons had 13 assists to go along with 20 turnovers.
The Golden Knights improved to 6-2 on the season and advanced to the Porrero Cup championship game. Darrell Blanton and Robert Wilson both recorded double-doubles for Gannon. Blanton poured in a game high 26 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Wilson added 12 points to go with 10 rebounds. Tanner Furno added 15 to round out the double digit scorers for the Golden Knights. The Golden Knights shot 48 percent from the field on the night, but they only hit 1-12 3-pointer's. The Golden Knights were a very solid 84 percent (26-31) at the free throw line. The Golden Knights crushed the Falcons on the boards 42-27. The Golden Knights had 16 assists and turned it over 20 times.
The Falcons will be back in action Saturday when they take on West Virginia Wesleyan in the consolation game. Tip time is set for 5:30 PM.
