Falcons Stung by Yellow Jackets At The Murph.
Perhaps Kevin Bille and Byron Scott should get together. The two coaches have something in common. Neither of them can win a game on there home floor. The Falcons most recent loss was a 82-80 setback to Cedarville on Thursday night.
Notre Dame College 9-17 (4-10 AMC) was led by four players in double figures on the evening. "We played well in spurts" said coach Kevin Bille. Eric Dummermuth paced the Falcons with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Curtis McClure continued his stellar play of late posting 21 points. Rodney Mickens netted 15 while Taylor Reiger added 11 in a game where he was just 3-13 from the field. The Falcons shot 44% from the floor but struggled from three point land going 6-18 (33%). The Falcons shot 80% (20-25) at the free throw line. The Falcons out rebounded Cedarville 42-32. NDC had 13 assists and 14 turnovers.
Cedarville improved to 14-9 overall and 9-5 AMC with the win. The Yellow Jackets improved to 6-0 all time against the Falcons. Two Yellow Jackets posted double figures on the night. Matt Harner paced the Jackets with 27 points behind 5-12 from three point land. Daniel Kohavi chipped in 12 points. The Jackets shot 48% from the floor. They hi 11-28 (39.3%) from three point land. They struggled at the foul line shooting at a 50% clip (9-18). The Jackets had 19 assists and 10 turnovers.
The Falcons got off to a hot start behind a pressing defense. The Falcons led 9-2 after a McClure layup 1:42 into the contest. Cedarville would get a three from Brian Hecker to cut the lead to 1 (16-15) with 14:13 in the half. The Yellow Jackets would control the next 4:30 minutes and it would be 30-23 Cedarville with 9:48 to go in the half. The Falcons would then use a 7-0 run to tie the game at 30. The Falcons would go up 44-37 at the intermission after a McClure jam right before the half.
The Falcons would stretch the lead to 10 by scoring the first 3 points of the second half. Cedarville would come back and regain the lead 54-53 on a Kohavi three with just under 14 minutes left. The two teams would continue to trade buckets over the next several minutes and after a Dummermuth jumper the game would be knotted at 67 with 5:04 to go. The Yellow Jackets would then go on a 9-2 run to take a 76-69 lead with just 1:09 to play. The Falcons would get to within 1 (79-78) on a Phil Biggs three with 11 seconds left. Hannon then made a pair of free throws with ten seconds to go for Cedarville. Phil Biggs would turn the ball over before NDC could get a shot off. After a split on a pair of free throws by Kohavi it was all over. Dummermuth hit a jumper as time expired to account for the 82-80 final.
NDC concludes this four game home stand Saturday vs WilberForce. The Falcons will look to snap a four game losing streak overall and six game skid at Murphy Gym. Tip time Saturday is set for 4 PM.
