Falcons Coast To Easy Home Opening Win!
The Notre Dame Falcons stepped on the floor for the first time in the 2010 season at Murphy Gym on Tuesday night and took advantage of the home court advantage in a 85-68 win over the Titans of Westminster (Pa) (1-2).
The Falcons shot a torrid 58% on the evening including 60% in the first half. The Falcons(2-3) tallied four players in double figures. Eric Dummermuth led the way with 23 points for the blue and white. Dummermuth hit 9 of 14 shots from the floor. Steve Savel added 15 points, Taylor Rieger netted 13 and Curtis McClure added 12 off the bench.
Westminster also tallied four players in double figures. Steve Cress led the way for the Titans with 18 points. Doug Smith netted 13, while Anthony Thomas and Ron Martino added 12 each.
The game was played evenly for most of the first twenty minutes. The game was tied at 36 before the Falcons end of the half run. The Falcons scored the last nine points of the half to take a 45-36 lead into halftime. The Titans stayed in the game by making 8 first half triples. The second half would be a different story as the Falcons would ramp up their defense and the Titans would go cold from long range. The closest the Titans would be in the second half would be 51-44 before the Falcons would go on another 10-0 run to take a 61-44 lead. The Falcons would lead by as many as 20 points in the game.
The Falcons shot 58% from the floor to just 39% for the Titans. NDC was 3 of 11 from long range (27%) while the Titans were 12-31 (39%). The Falcons went 14-21 (67%) from the charity stripe while the Titans were 4-5 (80%) from the free throw line. The Falcons dominated on the glass out rebounding the Titans 40-25. The Falcons did a much better job of taking care of the basketball Tuesday as they committed 12 turnovers while the Titans had 10 miscues.
NDC will be back in action Tuesday November 30th when they will open the AMC season vs Daemen. Tip time at Murphy Gym is set for 8 PM.
